Library Program & Curriculum

Beck Lower School Library: Kindergarten - Grade 4

All classes kindergarten through fourth grade come to the library once a week. Each class consists of a library / information skills lesson with time left over to check out books.

Third and fourth grade students are given the opportunity to keep a “Book Log.” Here they can record the books they have read and rate them for future reference.

Students also participate in the state-wide, annual “Bluebonnet Reading Program.” This is a uniquely Texan program where students may choose to read from a list of 20 books that have been nominated for the coveted Bluebonnet Award. If they read a minimum of 5, they may cast a ballot for their favorite at a special voting party each January. The winning book is announced each February.

All students must assume personal responsibility for maintaining the property and atmosphere of the library and for the care of the library books.
