Celebrations

Levine Academy defines education in the broadest sense, including the emotional and spiritual lives of our students. Therefore, in addition to secular and Jewish academic classroom studies, Levine Academy students join together in communal holiday celebrations. Students experience the Jewish spiritual cycle of the holidays through special programs in informal settings through art, music, and creative text study. These programs allow our students to express a significant part of their Jewish self, both individually and as a community. There are special programs for each of the major Jewish holidays, as well as Krystallnacht, Chanukah, Tu B'Shvat, Purim, Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, and Yom HaAtzma'ut.

In addition, our lower school students celebrate milestones in their Jewish educational development. Our first grade students celebrates the start to their study of tefilah with a Hagigat Hasiddur (Siddur Celebration), wherein each student receives his/her own prayer book, siddur. The second grade students mark the beginning of formal Torah study with Hagigat Hachumash, with each student receiving a copy of the book of Genesis or Bereishit. The third grade students enjoy Hagigat Hasafah highlighting advancement in Hebrew language and the fourth grade students end their year with the Aliyah ("Moving Up" or "Ascension") program, formally moving on to middle school.
